Project Planning Thoughts

I have found a new book titled: How to Do Research: A Practical Guide to Designing and Managing Research Projects by Nick Moore

Defining the Research Issue: (Pg. 5)

What are you trying to achieve?

I am trying to create a resource that helps orchestra teachers with using correct pedagogical terms to all the different types of instruments in a group beginner setting.

What are the important issues?

The important issues are making sure that the pedagogy terms are correct for each instrument, including behaviour techniques into how the teacher teaches the beginning students, making the text of the final product easy to read, and includes positive growth mindset language.

Who will benefit from or be affected by the project?

The goal is to make this handbook useable by anyone who teaches beginning strings in a multi-instrument format. My goal is to provide something that could be used for a brand new teacher, but also something for an experienced teacher to have a better way to truly include pedagogy on all of the instruments they teach, not just their own.

What things will change as a result of the project?

Beginning string orchestra teachers having a more comprehensive view of the pedagogy of all 4 stringed instruments. I am hoping that teachers' behaviour and mindsets also improve so that students can be taught with more positive reinforcements instead of negative.

Why has the project been established?

This project has been established due to the need to complete a personal project for my MAMEP course at Trinity Laban. This is also a project I have been thinking about as a beginner strings teacher in the states.

All the complexities of the project: (Pg.6)

- Pedagogy of instruments

- Behaviour for groups

- Positive growth mindset vocabulary

- Format of text-easy to read/why

- What already exists and is my project similar or still something that adds to these resources?

What I feel might be too much:

Behaviour and growth mindset

Why?

- This is a whole other world of knowledge that might be too much to include. I'm thinking about including rubrics teachers can use for the beginner students. I would write it with growth mindset words, but again, is this too much? Do you want to go down the route of adding rubrics??

- Adding rubrics would lead to assessment in education

- Having blurb at beginning of handbook that explains why it includes behaviour phrases: That means finding past research about why positive reinforcement and positive behaviour/classroom management phrases work better than negative.

Chronological Sequence:

Is there an order to how this project should be completed?

First, I think I just need to keep finding resources to see if there is anything like what I am looking to produce.

1. Lit review-what already exists in this area?

I am thinking it would be helpful to figure out the most desired format next-gives the overall project a layout.

2. Format

Then, I feel like behaviour and pedagogy need to be done together-reading about both at the same time would allow me to combine the ideas in my head to how I would want the product to be written.

3. / (4.) Behaviour and Pedagogy together

Another thought is doing behaviour research first, because then I could analyse pedagogy books and reword phrases as I go?

3. Behaviour

4. Pedagogy

To Be Continued....
