Today's class was the last resLAB! I can easily say I wish I had this class every week for the rest of my time at TL! This module has helped me process information, learn how to reflect, and given me so many ways to continue with my research for my personal project. I feel like I have just learned how to "think" again and it feels amazing.
This weeks class was about research questions. In a group, we came up with three generic topics and had to create a research question in 15 minutes. Our topics and questions were as follows:
1. Teaching style (method): In which ways can certain teaching methods enhance the elite performer?
2. Assessment: What is an effective assessment for a group of students to measure understanding?
3. Performance: How relevant are performance assessments to public performances?
After we created the questions, we then discussed them. The first question is good but too vague. The word "certain"is implying something but we don't know what from just the question itself. The second question was labeled as clear. It is broad but that allows you to choose how you want to go about doing your research within that question. The third question was originally not good. We re-wrote the question together to come up with what we were talking about.
Doing this activity really helped me figure out what is needed in a question and why. It was also a very valuable activity because it forced me to think in a different way. I had to think about the topics in a general way almost and instantly format questions about that topic. I do not normally think in questions, just in thoughts so it was hard for me to actually format a question but after that activity I understand more how to think about a research question.
